Harvest Playlist

Every fall, we make a "harvest shirt" for our crew members with something that hints at how the season went. Last year's shirt featured a playlist of songs that represent waiting in the field, driving tractors and trucks, and of course - sugar!

The songs are:

Round and Round - Ratt

All of us have to drive in circles all day. We “open” the field from the middle, making a big circle to avoid any sharp turns. We count rows to make sure it'll work nicely with the number of rows our defoliator and digger can handle in one pass, go one length down the field, turn and go back. The trucks also go back and forth from the field to the pile ground.

I Can’t Drive 55 - Sammy Hagar

We in fact must go 2.5 miles per hour. Depending on conditions, this may change but around 2.5 mph tends to be the sweet spot

What’d ya say? Quit mumbling Dave. We use CB radios in the tractors, trucks, and service trucks to communicate. Some of us (not naming any names) need to enunciate a tad more.

When the scale ladies give us treats.

To enter the factory, the trucks had to drive across a scale and get an inbound ticket with the weight, farmer, and other info on it. They also get weighed on the way out so the factory could know how much beets they unloaded. The ladies that work in the scale house sometimes give out candy or baked goods
