Meet Dave

Wholly Spirits a small family-owned distillery crafting locally grown beet sugar spirits, based in Sidney, Montana. The distillery was founded in 2023 when the sugar beet factory in Sidney closed, leaving Dave with all the equipment and knowledge to farm beets but nowhere to take them.

Dave grew up in a family of farmers and ranchers in Eastern Montana. In high school, he began working for sugar beet farmers in Eastern Montana, an area known as “Sugar Valley”. He perfected his irrigation techniques in the valley and expanded his line of implements, gaining a trustworthy reputation with landowners as well as other growers. Dave served on the board for the Montana-Dakota Beet Growers Association for several years, attending conferences across the United States. He loves managing his own farm and seeing the fruits (or vegetables and grains) of his labor. His wife Becky also grew up on a family farm and together, the two have shared a love for breweries and craftsmanship. Dave had been home-brewing beer as a hobby for over 20 years, experimenting and honing his process. He and his friends would even compete to discover the best ways to infuse jalapeños into the beer. Dave and Becky love traveling and on a trip to Hawaii they discovered the Koloa Rum Company, a former sugar cane plantation turned distillery. There, they realized they could make rum with sugar from beets and the concept of Wholly Spirits was born. It was mostly a pipe dream until the opportunity presented itself in 2023 and was brought to life.

Since then, we at Wholly Spirits have created 3 classic rums - White, Spiced, and Coconut. We are currently working with distributors to get our products on the shelves of your favorite liquor stores and in local bars. Stay tuned for event information and updates.
